Bronze Age Food Culture: A comparative study of South Scandinavian and Central European attitudes towards food

Christina Karlsson supervised by

One way of getting closer to Bronze Age culture and ideology is by looking at what was consumed. Food is not only the source of nutrition, but also something with strong cultural implications. All things edible are not always on the menu and by looking at what is included as well as what is excluded clues can be given to how the people of the Bronze Age lived their lives. By performing vessel use analysis on pottery from Southern Scandinavia as well as from Central Europe I aim to compare the attitudes towards food and add knowledge about the attitudes of food preparation to what is known of food culture through macrofossil and archaeozoological studies.
