Lived Experience at Bodiam, Scotney and Ightham in the later middle ages

Abstract:

Bodiam, Scotney and Ightham, three late medieval high-status buildings in south-east England, provide a focussed research area with which to explore the lived experience of the middle ages. The concept of lived experience has rarely been applied to medieval sites and suggests new ways to examine these buildings through digital media technologies.

This paper will present my first phase of work exploring the use of space in the private apartments of Bodiam Castle. It will detail the challenges I have faced producing a visualisation, the questions I have had to ask about the process of simulation throughout the year, and my achievements to date.
