Mid-Imperial Age Pottery Contexts from Palatines’ N-E Slopes excavations in Rome and their implications in Western Trade and Economy
Supervisor: Professor Simon Keay
Abstract:
The so-called ‘Terme di Elagabalo’ at Rome is a large building that is providing with key, and hitherto unknown, significant information about Mid-imperial economy of the City. In this research, the ceramics from the site, elsewhere in the Capital and other sites nearby, will provide an understanding of products that arrived in the Urbs, and re-emphasize the importance of ceramics to understand Roman commerce. However, this new data will not be analyzed simply from the perspective of imported foodstuffs, but also from that of the consumers, thereby shedding light on the significance of personal choice in generating commercial routes.
