The role of the polished axe in Neolithic Society

Supervisors: Professor Clive Gamble and Dr. Benjamin Roberts (British Museum)

Abstract:

My talk will focus upon how polished axes have gained individual biographies, the manufacturing of polished axes, their role in Neolithic society, and how these objects were used as sources of power. I will also be putting polished axes in a European context, linking with wider themes of monumentality and the Neolithic mind.
