Cultural Heritage in the Media
Supervisors: Professor Jon Adams and Dr. Lucy Blue
Abstract:
Today cultural heritage is experiencing an increasing threat from commercial and private exploitation. The groups who engage in this exploitation have support, in an alarming numbers, from public opinion due to the lack of information and/or misrepresentation from the mass media. The ethics and legislation in archaeology are well established, but poorly disseminated. This is a in-depth look at the portrayal of cultural heritage, especially shipwreck archaeology, by motion picture, television, and new media industries. This presentation will utilize film and the new media in its entirety to best demonstrate the implication and reach of the current social landscape.
