Linked Data for Cuneiform Literary Corpora

Supervisors: Dr Graeme Earl (main), Dr Nick Gibbins (joint) and Dr Jacob Dahl, University of Oxford (joint)

Abstract:

My research looks at Linked Data as a tool for publishing Assyriological data online. Examining the topic through the lens of Web Science, I aim to consider technical and social aspects in equal measures.

Whilst my previous research examined the problems of representing ambiguities in ancient data where space and time are concerned, more recently my focus has shifted to the representation of the narrative. The aim is to find ways in which the complicated and long literary texts known from ancient Mesopotamia, written in the cuneiform script, can be represented. Using the newest of online technologies can help in our understanding of these ancient literary compositions, and open them up to a wider audience.
